As Partner for Related Santa Clara and Chief Operating Officer for Related California, Mr. Vanderboom leads the daily operation of Related Santa Clara and the company’s California portfolio of luxury, mixed-income and mixed-use developments. He and his partners are responsible for a $13 billion pipeline of more than 7,000 multifamily units and over 7 million square feet of commercial space located in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Orange County. His responsibilities encompass all aspects of the development process, the strategic direction of the company, and overall management of the firm. Since joining Related in 2017, Mr. Vanderboom has been directly involved in the development of more than 2,000 multifamily units with development costs in excess of $2 billion.
Prior to joining Related, as Executive Vice President for The Howard Hughes Corporation, Mr. Vanderboom led the company’s Hawaii division and oversaw the development of more than $2 billion in assets, including Ward Village, a 60-acre urban master planned community in the heart of Honolulu that upon completion will include more than 4,500 units and 1 million square feet of retail. Under his leadership, Ward Village was named Best Planned Community in the United States by Architectural Digest, and became Hawaii’s only LEED-ND Platinum-Certified development, the largest neighborhood development in the country to achieve Platinum certification.
Mr. Vanderboom holds a Master of Real Estate Development and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. During his five years at USC, Mr. Vanderboom played football under head coach, Pete Carroll, winning two National and five Pac-10 Championships. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Lusk Center for Real Estate at the University of Southern California and the Policy Advisory Board for the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics Policy at the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization and The Guardsmen.
