As Senior Development Associate for Related California, Mr. Hanson is responsible for supporting all project management efforts to originate, finance, entitle, develop and manage Related’s affordable residential developments throughout the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest.
Mr. Hanson comes to Related with a solid background in affordable development with experience in legislative affairs, economic development and public policy. Prior to joining Related, Mr. Hanson was a Senior Associate at Urban Land Institute San Francisco where he managed the Innovative Finance and Regional Public Policy working groups that focused specifically on affordable housing methods and solutions in the Bay Area. For more than 4 years, he worked in city government in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as Chief of Staff for a Pittsburgh City Councilmember and Chair of the City’s Land Use and Economic Development Committee, where he managed legislation, spearheaded constituent relations, and handled strategic relationships with key stakeholders such as civic leaders and real estate developers. Mr. Hanson also served as Communications Manager for the Chair of the Pittsburgh City Council’s Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, Patrick Dowd.
Mr. Hanson holds a Master in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Politics-Philosophy and Urban Studies from the University of Pittsburgh Honors College. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and sits on the ULI San Francisco’s Young Leaders Group Steering Committee.
