As Chief Operating Officer for Related California Affordable, Ms. Sherman is responsible for driving the daily operations, efficiency and growth of the over $8.5 billion affordable portfolio in Northern California, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest, including overseeing asset management, technology, risk management and insurance, while leading process improvements across functions to achieve financial and operational goals.
Ms. Sherman brings more than 20 years of extensive financial and operational leadership to Related. Prior to joining Related, she was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at BRIDGE Housing Corporation where she was responsible for the execution of the company’s strategy and oversaw multiple departments, including property operations, information technology and data systems, finance and accounting, and risk management. As Chief Financial Officer for the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, she focused on Haas-specific initiatives, such as ensuring financial health for strategic growth, enabling new programs, fostering strategic partnerships, and balancing innovation with a fiscal discipline for the school with a more than $500 million endowment. As Chief Financial Officer for Aspire Public Schools, she managed a budget of $240 million and led a 35-person multifunctional team for a nonprofit charter school network serving 16,000 students in low-income communities across California and other states.
Ms. Sherman holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College. She is a Board Member of Blueprint, a nonprofit that provides community-based lending to create facilities for charter schools and Climb Hire, a nonprofit that equips working adults with the technical and people skills necessary to enter high-growth industries.
